MissionSquare Retirement Memorial Scholarship Fund

The MissionSquare Retirement Public Employee Memorial Scholarship Fund accepts applications annually from December 15 - March 15. Scholarships are awarded to surviving spouses or children of employees who have died in the line of duty; the scholarship is for those who plan to attend a two- or four-year accredited college, university, or vocational school to pursue undergraduate, graduate, or vocational study.

Founded in 2001, the fund honors the lives of our nation's police officers, firefighters, and other local and state government employees who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Each year, scholarships in amounts of up to $10,000 are awarded to selected students. Since its inception, the MissionSquare Retirement Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $900,000 in scholarships to hundreds of recipients. The MissionSquare Retirement Memorial Scholarship Fund is a Section 501(c)(3) public charity. The fund's Board of Directors manages and oversees the eligibility and award selection process. Scholarships are managed and administered through Scholarship America, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS).

World Police & Fire Games

MissionSquare Retirement served as the Official Retirement Plan Services Provider of the World Police & Fire Games, which were held in the DC metropolitan area this year. The Games, Olympic-style sporting events held bi-annually for first responders, concluded on July 5, 2015. The Games brought more than 10,000 first responders and 20,000 spectators to the region.

In addition, MissionSquare Retirement was the host of two public-safety-focused sports: Police Service Dog and Motorcycle Street; more than 70 MissionSquare Retirement associates attended the events and cheered on the public sector athletes. MissionSquare Retirement representatives were also on hand to pass out medals during the medal ceremony and to help recognize Games winners.
