In September 2015, the District of Columbia switched to a new recordkeeper, MissionSquare Retirement, for your 401(a) Retirement Plan and 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan.

To make sure the transition went smoothly and to boost plan awareness and participation, the District and MissionSquare Retirement worked together to launch a multi-channel (print, online, and in-person) effort to share information about the changes. The District held on-site group education seminars and one-on-one appointments with the plans' Retirement Plans Specialists, created a new custom brand, and worked on an education campaign, "You're Invited," to inspire employees to enroll in the optional 457 Plan.

The District was recently awarded an Eddy Award from Pensions & Investments for these transition activities. These awards recognize outstanding efforts by plan sponsors and their service providers to educate employees about how to invest their defined contribution plan assets wisely for retirement.

 

Passport Winners

Congratulations to the winners of the Passport to Financial Wellness Program! Participants in the program attended education seminars to get their "passports" stamped, then were entered into the prize drawing. Each winner received a Fitbit. Thank you to everyone who participated!
