The position will perform tax research and formulate and support tax compliance and planning strategies involving all foreign tax matters of the Vantagepoint Funds (“the Fund”), a regulated investment company with diversified international investments in developed, emerging market, and fast-growing developing countries worldwide. This position will work closely with other departments and third-party global custody personnel to accomplish the essential functions of the position, to include informing and educating key business line staff on matters relevant to the Fund’s tax compliance in foreign jurisdictions. Essential functions for this role include: • Perform global tax research, advise on transactions, formulate tax planning strategies, prepare clear and concise written and verbal communications, and provide best practice recommendations covering tax compliance and issue resolution for the Fund in all applicable foreign jurisdictions. • Perform foreign country tax research and tax planning, and analyze and document tax positions and advice, including the preparation of appropriate ASC 740 (FIN 48) and financial statement or other regulatory disclosures. • Monitor local country tax law changes and stay current on matters that may impact the Fund's tax compliance in foreign jurisdictions. • Analyze and interpret U.S and foreign income tax laws, including tax treaties, when applicable. • Review and analyze U.S. foreign tax credits and limitations. • Provide tax advice covering foreign withholding and reclaim matters. • Advise management and the Fund on all foreign country tax implications associated with international investment activities. • Oversee and coordinate relationships with local country income tax advisors and preparers, as applicable, and monitor other third-party processes responsible for preparation, review, and timely and accurate filing of all Fund-level tax returns and reports to ensure compliance with foreign country income, excise, withholding, reclaim, and information reporting requirements. • Prepare all materials and reports necessary to ensure that management and the Board stays fully informed and up to date on the Fund's foreign tax compliance matters. This function requires flexibility, excellent communication skills, and coordination with other departments and groups both within and outside the organization, including professional advisers. • Manage internal staff and third-party resources, as applicable, to include supervising, assigning or coordinating work, training, developing, evaluating, and motivating cross-divisional and third-party project teams. • Maintain appropriate filing and retrieval systems. • Perform other tax, regulatory, and special project work, as assigned. |
Requirements | If you have the following credentials, we encourage you to apply: • Master's Degree or equivalent related experience. • CPA certification required. • 7+ years related experience. Prefer large CPA firm global (international) tax work experiences; familiarity with financial industry is a plus. • 5+ years of supervisory experience. • Must have proven and extensive technical experience in the matters of foreign and U.S. international tax laws. • Strong fundamental knowledge of foreign country and U.S. international tax laws & regulations. • US mutual fund tax rules knowledge is a plus. • Broad consulting and compliance experience in the area of foreign taxation. • Ability to perform independent analysis of tax issues and take and support tax positions. • Highest level of commitment to quality and customer service. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Strong analytical, organizational, follow-up and time management skills; comfort in elevating issues, whenever applicable or appropriate. • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. • Strong computer (PC) skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
